West End and Broadway star Alfie Boe will headline what promises to be a moving and magical night of live music as Scarborough’s Open Air Theatre hosts a special Armed Forces Day concert.

Britain’s superstar tenor has been wowing crowds on both sides of the Atlantic for more than a decade.

And the star of such legendary stage productions as Les Misérables and La Bohème will play Scarborough’s Open Air Theatre on Saturday June 25.

Today’s announcement comes as music promoters Cuffe and Taylor reveal a different summer 2016 headliner for Scarborough OAT every day this week.

British soul superstars Simply Red, former The Beautiful South stars Paul Heaton and Jacqui Abbott and rock legends Status Quo have already been confirmed as part of what is rapidly shaping up to be an unforgettable summer of live music on the Yorkshire coast.

Tickets for Alfie Boe’s not-to-be-missed Armed Forces Day show go on sale at 9am Monday December 14.

Armed Forces Day is firmly established as one of the biggest annual events on the Yorkshire coast, and thousands of people are once again expected to flock to the town on June 25, 2016, for an action-packed programme of thrilling displays, interactive exhibits, marching bands and parades by service veterans.

Cllr Andrew Backhouse, Scarborough Borough Council Cabinet Member for Leisure, Tourism and Culture, said: “Scarborough is gearing up for an action packed Armed Forces Day in 2016. The Alfie Boe concert will once again be a fitting finale to the day’s events – a chance to pay tribute to our Armed Forces and celebrate in a very patriotic way.”

Alfie, widely-known as Britain’s favourite tenor, hails from the Lancashire fishing port of Fleetwood. His first big break came when Baz Luhrmann cast him as one of the main leads in his Broadway production of Puccini’s La Bohème which earned Alfie a Tony Award.

With a number of top-selling classical albums under his belt, in 2010 Alfie took on the lead role of Jean Valjean in Les Misérables in the West End. He led the cast at London’s 02 Arena, in Cameron Mackintosh’s 25th Anniversary of Les Mis. The live DVD became a worldwide smash hit.

Alfie’s 2011 album Bring Him Home and follow ups Alfie, Storyteller, Trust and Serenata cemented his place as a platinum-selling recording artist and a hugely-successful concert performer worldwide.

Tickets for the fully seated concert are priced from £….. and are available from Ticketmaster.co.uk on 0844 844 0444 or in person at Scarborough Open Air Theatre Box Office from 9am Monday December 14.
